About Rivendell Farm Cottages
As we headed off for a week’s boating holiday on the Gippsland Lakes in January 2003 we had no idea how that week would end! A wet day bought us into Metung for supplies. With a long queue at the bakery, as always, Peter did his usual window shopping at the real estate offices. This detour from the bakery ended up with an instant attraction to the property and so the never ending “job list “began. Early days saw heavy negotiations between us with dollar for dollar allocated for farm and stock and then house and garden.
And so our journey began!
Fun for kids
To keep the kids entertained we have a play area that is hidden away in a cubby house of trees and if pre-arranged with us we would be more than happy to take them around visiting, petting and feeding some of the farm animals. As you can understand this is popular for all the children that come and stay so remember not to feed anything to any of the animals on the property unless with one of us otherwise they will get too fat.
We have an exciting range of cooking facilities in various places around the property. Wood fired pizza, an Indian tandoor, the incredible Kamado set inside the Japanese garden and of course our commercial style kitchen in the main 130 year old homestead.
Pets are welcome
We understand that it’s near on impossible to go away without your pets so they are welcome to come with you as long as it is pre-arranged with us at the time of booking. Both cottages have a fully fenced area around them to keep your pets close by. You are most welcome to have them inside with you, just be sure to keep them off the furniture. The property also has a lunging yard, stables and a tack room available upon request. Also please be sure to keep in mind that we are a working farm so all animals are to be supervised at all times by you and to be conscious of our animals on the property. We will accept no responsibility for any animal that may injure itself whilst staying on the property.
There are a wide range of local activities available such as sampling local gourmet wines, horse riding, 4WD tracks, trout fishing, nature walks, Buchan caves, canoeing on the Tambo, the many local art/craft and antique galleries, swimming at the surf beaches, boating and fishing on the glorious Gippsland Lakes and much more.
However if you would prefer to just stay on the property we have enough here to keep you truly satisfied. Feel free to wander and enjoy the unspoilt ambience in the extensive designated safe areas whilst also being mindful of the private grounds and paddocks with stock.
We also have a private beach on the Tambo River and access from the property, where you can either laze in the hammock with some local wine and a packed picnic lunch.
For the more adventurous person you may like to ride the Rail Trail or try your luck fishing for Bream in the river. Afterwards simply unwind in the spa that is located in the orchard, it’s the perfect place to dream the day away or shake off those stresses with a glass of wine and a glorious view to match.
Rivendell Farm is a working Angus Beef farm with too many horses, a recently established trufferie, magnificent manicured gardens, two orchards, an extensive veggie garden with an array of chickens, peacocks and guinea fowl roaming the grounds. We are continuously growing with what we have on offer such as special events and functions as well as weddings. For any further information on these things please contact us directly.
So if it’s the unusual, luxurious high quality getaway that you’re yearning for, take your shoes off, feel the grass beneath your feet and leave everything that you haven’t thought of to us. We will be sending you home filled with new knowledge, experiences and a collection of unmatchable memories to cherish forever.
